You can find gutter brushes at most home improvement stores. Installing and making gutter repairs is something you can do yourself and save a lot of money. To remove your gutters loosen the screws that hold the gutter brackets using a screwdriver until the gutter detaches from the side of the house. Luckily most common gutter problems are easy for homeowners to fix.

Stick and rotate the brush in the downspout to clear away any debris that s stuck in the piping. Leave the old spikes in place a spike head looks better than a hole in the gutter. Run water into the gutter at the top of the downspout and watch the drainage at the bottom. Gutters are designed to do one thing channel water away from the foundation and they re critical to protecting the structural integrity of your house.

If your gutter is leaking or loose it can probably be repaired. However a smashed or bent gutter will need replacement. And even seamless gutters aren t immune to drips. Often gutter spikes or nails come loose and the gutter has pulled away from the fascia or the downspout has come loose.

But in order for gutters to do their job properly they have to be kept in shape and free of clogs holes and sags.
