Extra fast action rod applications.

A moderate fast or light action will bend nearly a third of the way down the rod blank which is considered slow. Moderate action bends at the 30 40 mark and slow action bends at 50 or below. These are standard rods in the panfish crappie and small trout game. Action balances the power of the rod for casting and fighting bass.

While it can be used in a variety of fishing situations it is most popular with single hooks applications like worming and jigging. Fast action rods are great for most applications where a short to long casting distance is involved and single hooks are the rule such as worm and jig fishing. There are three general ratings that measure action. Ultra light rods are ideal with light lures 1 32 to 3 8 oz to load quickly and efficiently.

There are also some in between ratings like extra fast and moderate fast. These rods are a slight bump up in power and are ideal with lures in the 1 16 ounce range. The rod we use for this application is a 6 8 team lews baitcasting rod with medium heavy fast action. Medium and medium fast rods will usually provide a little more casting distance and still provide adequate hooksetting power.

This is the perfect rod for this application not too much tip but just enough to. We like the in between rods because it seems like the shorter rods didn t allow for complete hook sets and longer rods pulled the bait away from the fish. These actions are often used for applications that involve treble hooks such as crankbaits and topwater lures or other reaction baits such as spinnerbaits. Extra fast the extra fast will flex only about 10 to 20 down the rod blank allowing an angler to quickly utilize the blanks power and backbone.

The bite of a treble hook is not as deep as a big. Because of its softer feel this rod will allow for proper hook sets for light biting species. Extra fast action rods offer a high degree of tip sensitivity and offer faster power during hook set. Again without a standard to reference it s meaningless.

Fast action bends in the top 20 30 of the rod and it is the most common action rating.
